School Transformation Project
This year Working Playground, the lead arts in education partner in MS 131 along with The Hester Street Collaborative, Arts in General, The Wooster Group, and Orchestra St. Lukes will be kicking off a huge initiative to transform the common spaces of MS 131!
Starting in early January 2008, students, teachers, school administration and parents of MS131 will get together to conceptualize the transformation of the school's common areas into a student created and curated multi-disciplinary art gallery.
Some important dates:
March 14th and 15th- Students will participate in different stations to generate ideas for what they would like to see in the common areas.
Below are images of what our common areas look like now. There is so much potential to make these into beautiful, enriching spaces for our students!
Main Entry
Front Hall
Cool space for some modern images!
We can even do something with these steps!
Florescent lights! Broken!
Main Common Area
Pillars and Old Student Work (From 20 years ago!)
This piece was put here in 1984!
Some natural light in the main area- how can we use this?
This is a planter with a quilt hanging over it- and dirt and trash inside of it!
These lights have never been used-
Back Display Case
Some examples of what's in the back display case! Clay!
Back Hallway Display Case
Back Hallway definitely needs some work!
As you can see, there are quite a few changes that can be made at MS131 to transform it's common spaces into a unique art gallery.
We are excited to get this project under way!
Stay tuned for updates!
